'Auto Trends' Talks to the First State Offering Low $100 Monthly EV Payments (Two Shows)

This week on Auto Trends with JeffCars.com, a weekly syndicated multicultural automotive program, Washington State joins us to talk about their all-inclusive electrification program that literally leaves no eligible driver behind.

With many states and automakers making the shift toward electrification, infrastructure and affordability have been two of the major deterrents causing many Americans to steer clear of these non gasoline and diesel-powered cars.

While the price of an electric vehicle has slid from $65,000 two years ago during the peak of Covid to $57,000 this past quarter, the next phase of motoring continues to be out of reach for most Americans, especially being that the average transaction price of a new vehicle is approximately $48,000, according to Cox Automotive.

This week on Auto Trends with JeffCars.com we talk to California's Gateway Community Charters (GCC). As the country slowly shifts toward electric vehicles (EV), this Northern California school system has become one of the first in the country to create an EV curriculum. What makes this program so unique is that the school system has decided to focus on lowrider vehicles, which was birthed out of the Hispanic culture.

Being that Sacramento Academic and Vocational Academy (SAVA), a GCC charter school, where the course is being offered, caters to a student population with a high concentration of Latino and Black students, this makes perfect sense that the school has chosen to convert a lowrider gasoline car to an all-electric vehicle.

We'll also explore how the California-based advocacy organization is helping to infuse lowrider electric vehicle education in the school system.

More importantly, we'll discuss the instrumental role this group played in reversing discriminatory cruising polices targeting Hispanic and Latino communities throughout the state of California. In fact, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Saturday, October 14 lifting the restriction on lowriding cruising that was enacted in the 1950s.

While Tesla is winning the electric luxury car race in terms of sales and record setting stock prices, making it the most valuable automotive company in the world, they’re bringing up the rear with regard to race relations with the Black community.

According to the latest industry data, Black car buyers account for 4 percent of Tesla’s annual new vehicle sales. Moreover, up until 2019, Linda Johnson Rice, whose father founded Ebony Magazine, was the first and only African American to serve on the automaker’s board, until she and two others opted not to stay on as directors.
