'Auto Trends' Revisits Tesla's Bumpy Racial History With Its Black Workforce (Two Shows)

In 2021, Tesla was winning the electric car race in terms of sales and record setting stock prices. Almost four years later, Tesla has been on a rollercoaster ride. While Tesla is still number one in the U.S. electric car market, both sales and stocks have tumbled. Some of the sales fallout is attributed to more electric vehicle competition in the market, while the lion's share of the luxury brand's ills have been driven by CEO's Elon Musk's new role as what many see as co-President of the United States of America.

'Auto Trends' Women's History Month Spotlight: African American Travel And The Road To Civil Rights (Two Shows)

As we kickoff Women's History Month, Auto Trends with JeffCars.com, the only syndicated multicultural automotive program in North America, is reaching into our archives re-airing a 2020 conversation centered around cars, travel, Civil Rights and American history. In light of the current state of the world, it seems fitting that we revisit history, seeing the climate the Black community encountered before gaining many of the civil liberties most of us have taken for granted.

In an exclusive two-part conversation with Auto Trends with JeffCars.com, curator, documentarian, professor and author Dr. Gretchen Sorin literally take us on a historical road trip, exploring the popular acronym DWB beyond the lens of racial profiling. In her book, Driving While Black: African American Travel And The Road To Civil Rights, the effervescent Sorin shares how the car, which has served as the ultimate symbol of independence and possibility, played different roles for both the Black and white community.

'Auto Trends' Celebrates 9 Years On The Air

Nine years ago this weekend Auto Trends with JeffCars.com drove onto the airwaves in Atlanta with a monthly program. Today the program is the only and the longest running weekly syndicated multicultural automotive radio program airing in North America. This expansion into North America is due to our partnership with HURVoices and SiriusXM, the largest audio entertainment group in the United Station.

While it took nearly fifteen years to turn this dream into reality, getting the program on air, it's been a ride and grind we couldn't have imagined. When the high-energy multicultural program was launched, our focus then and now continues to center around pioneers, influencers and trendsetters in the industry. And just like founder John Johnson's Ebony magazine, our car-themed program was also created to share the stories of the voiceless.

The Biden Administration Talks To 'Auto Trends' About The Latest Electric Vehicle Incentives Targeting Minorities And Low Income Car Buyers

DOE's Michael Berube (photo credit: DOE)

On August 16, 2022, under the Inflation Reduction Act, the Biden Administration announced the most drastic change to transform the auto industry, since Henry Ford revolutionized the development of mass produced cars. This new legislation will help to usher in, as well as aid the country transition toward purchasing both new and used electric vehicles, making them more affordable.

The Inflation Reduction Act will also aid California Air Resource Board (CARB) drive, no pun intended, to ban the sale of all-new gasoline powered cars in their state by 2035. California announced this initiative in September 2020. The state has always been the forerunner in the United States, as it relates to auto emission controls and helping to keep the environment green. Other states are expected to follow suit, eliminating the ban of new gasoline powered vehicles too.
