Lisa Lunsford, the CEO and co-founder of the Detroit-based auto manufacturer, Global Strategic Supply Solutions, talks to Auto Trends with JeffCars.com, the only syndicated multicultural automotive radio program in North America.

At the time of our conversation four years ago, Lunsford was one of two Black women in the automotive manufacturing industry who headed a Tier One company. A Tier One business supplies the parts to build cars directly to a major automaker. To put this in perspective, the average car consist of 30,000 to 90,000 of parts. Today we believe she is the only Black women in this role.

Last year Americans car buyers broke a record, registering over 1.3 million new electric vehicles, according to KBB. Electric vehicles represented 8 percent of total new vehicle sales in 2024.

While most Americans have been hesitant to make the shift to go electric due to a lack of charging infrastructure, pioneer and founder of the Texas-based Revitalize Charging Solutions, Edward Morgan, has been helping to charge up America.

Historic Move: GM Appoints First Woman In The Industry To Run A Major Automaker

In a history making move,  GM, which no longer has the government as one if its investors as a result of the bankruptcy, just appointed the auto industry first female CEO, Mary Barra, to oversee a major automaker.

Prior to the announcement, which is effective January 15, 2014, which happens to be Dr. King's birthday, here's how Barra bio reads.

Mary Barra was named Senior Vice President, Global Product Development effective February 1, 2011, responsible for the design, engineering, program management and quality of General Motors vehicles around the world. On August 1, 2013, she assumed responsibility for GM’s Global Purchasing and Supply Chain organization and was named Executive Vice President, Global Product Development & Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. She is a member of the GM Executive Operations Committee and serves on the Adam Opel AG Supervisory Board.
