Verdict: The iconic G-Wagon is the upscale alternative to the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco. Unlike both of those non-premium utility vehicles, the spacious Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon is more refined in terms of driving characteristics and its array of luxurious accoutrements.

For the 2025 model year, the iconic G-Wagon steps up its game, offering for the first time an all-electric model. This new model is known as the G 580. At a starting price of $161,500, the G 580 costs approximately $12,250 more than the non-electrified G 550.

The all-new G 580, which retains its boxy design, differentiates itself from the G 550 gasoline model by offering a heart-pumping 579-horsepower, quicker 0-60 acceleration and double the torque. However, the downside of the stealth looking vehicle going all-electric, when compared to its gasoline-powered sibling, is that the G 580 offers less cargo space and no tow bar for towing due to the batteries.

Overall, the all-new G 580, with its updated gaming-like touchscreen infotainment system, retains many of the characteristics that has made this on or off-road utility vehicle a standout in the segment. So, for folks who are looking to be seen, they can now elevate their game with an environmentally friendly electrified G-Wagon. Our hope is that Mercedes-Benz boosts its driving range next model year.

Non Luxury Gasoline Competition: Ford Bronco; Ineos Grenadier; and Jeep Wrangler
