Auto Trends with JeffCars.com kicks off its ninth radio season talking with Administrator Shailen Bhatt. Bhatt, who served as the 21st administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, gives his last official radio interview, before stepping down to return to the private sector.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Bhatt who is the first person of Indian descent to lead the agency, talks about the role of managing the historic $350 billion-dollar Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to how the Federal Highway Administration is rectifying the racial divide in Black communities that was created by the federal highway system in the sixties.
Furthermore Bhatt, who has served in this role since 2022, after being nominated by President Biden and approved by the senate, also shares his vision of the future of the federal highway system combining AI, safety, charging stations and connected cars.
During Bhatt's tenure, his agency was responsible for such high-profile emergencies as the Philadelphia I-95 bridge tanker truck fire to the Francis Scott Key Baltimore bridge collapse.
Administrator Bhatt previously worked for the Federal Highway Administration during President Obama's tenure.
