Verdict:  Hyundai has a homerun on its hands with the all-new, all-electric Ioniq 5 sub brand. While all the attention on electric vehicles has been at the top end of the segment, making the next phase of transportation unattainable for most car buyers, Hyundai has hit a sweet spot at the low-end range of the segment with the Ioniq 5.

According to our sources, Hyundai’s vehicle is only available in select markets and with a driving range of 254 miles to 303. Thus, the standard short-range model, which currently isn’t in production and starts at a lower price point, delivers a 202-mile driving range.

The stylish rear-wheel drive hatchback shares an all-new platform with its Korean siblings, the Kia EV6 and the Genesis GV60. While all three vehicles look like hatchbacks, they’re being touted as crossovers. Go figure. In our eyes, they still look like the next generation of what we could imagine a hatchback to look like, but with a higher ground clearance.

As a result of the functional design, the Ioniq 5, which is also available in an all-wheel drive configuration, with its roomy and comfortable seating is just a joy to drive, especially with the 303-horsepower. Depending upon the trim, buyers can opt for an oversized fixed panoramic roof to a 360-degree camera to 20-inch wheels to a 300-mile driving range to a perpendicular and parallel parking assist system. Oh yes and we can’t forget, the Korean’s all-new vehicle-to-load feature allows the Ioniq to be taking on a camping expedition too with the ability to charge-up everything from an electric frying pan to an electric bike. What else could you ask for?

Furthermore, the dual interior computer screens, which houses both the traditional gauges and the infotainment system, are easy to use. Moreover, being that a number of us are on our computers all day, its easy to adapt and use the system. And unlike some of the electric vehicles, the placement of the dual screens doesn’t distract from the attractiveness of the interior layout.

Lastly, we must point out that the Ioniq 5 also allows the driver to individualize the ventilation system too, when commuting solo. Why waste an electrical charge by cooling the entire vehicle, when the ventilation system can be instructed to focus on that area where the driver is seated?
