The much-anticipated J.D. Power Initial Quality Study was released today, measuring the quality of each of today's 2015 models during the first 90 days of ownership. Jaguar, Kia and Infiniti were the three top brands (or makes) for 2015. Chevy, a division of General Motors, had four models models awarded as the tops in their respective segments, while BMW followed with three awarded models. This report has basically thrown the theory out of the window, as it relates to foreign vehicles being better than domestics. That is not necessarily the case with today's vehicles.
Typically, any model that has gone through a major redesign or is totally new to the segment rarely makes the list, because automakers are still trying to work out the kinks. To our surprise, the all-new Audi Q3 made the list, although this is its first year of production. Ironically, vehicles like the Mazda Miata and the Chevy Spark, which are in the last years of its production cycle, make the list. Its assumed that the automakers have worked out most of the kinks by the time they switch over to the model.
