Throwback Thursday: A Moment In Automotive History

In 1985, Advertising Age, one of the industry trade magazines, declared that
a new importer plans to recapture the low-price, but lovable, marketing image of the Volkswagen Beetle this summer when it starts marketing a Yugoslavian-built auto.
The Yugo, announced as a $3,995 basics small car, must be marketed as a fun vehicle with good value because too many low-end competitors will soon crop up for price advertising alone to work, said John Slaven, senior vice president of marketing for Yugo America.

Great throwback. Yugos were fun cars to drive. It's amazing how cheap the car was back in 85. Crazy thing is I just towed 87 about 4 months ago.
