It's been well over a decade since Jaguar offered a compact luxury vehicle. The last time they played in this segment was when Ford Motor Company owned them and they offered a Ford-based Mondeo known as the X-Type.

Well this time around the Indian-owned company is developing an all-new platform and engine for the all-new XE. The compact vehicle will be built off of an advanced aluminum architecture, which is similar to the C-X17 concept crossover we profiled from the Detroit Auto Show.

The XE will be powered by the brand's all-new 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine. The XE will go head-to-head with Mercedes-Benz's new CLA and Caddy's ATS. Pricing will more than likely be in sync with those vehicles too, starting out in the low $30,000 range. The XE is expected to arrive in the states in 2016.
