Toyota is expected to recall 3.8-million vehicles in the next week or two to address problems with the accelerator pedals having the potential to get stuck in the full-open position, as a result of loose floor mats. Until the recall is officially announced, NHTSA, the government agency which monitors recalls, recommends removing the driver-side mats and not replacing them with any other mats, if you happen to own one of the affected vehicles listed below.
Affected Toyota vehicles are the 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma and 2007-2010 Tundra. Lexus' affected vehicles are the 2007-2010 ES 350 and 2006-2010 IS 250 and IS 350.
NHTSA has received more than 100 confirmed reports of accelerator pedal issues, which provide the potential for an accelerator pedal to get stuck in the full open position, according to The Detroit News. By following NHTSA suggestion, this should avoid the chance of any more needless accidents. Just wondering: Will this recall sully Toyota's reputation or is this just apart of doing business?
