What’s New: For the 2026 model year, Subaru adds a new XT trim, which offers a significant boost in horsepower, as well as more driving range.

Why:

All-electric

A clean futuristic design

AWD standard like on all Subarus

Electric vehicle driving range: 289 miles

New XT trims add much needed horsepower

New stylish exterior front lighting

Comfortable seats in Touring XT

Great sound system in Touring XT

Universal adaptor available, ability to use Telsa’s Supercharger System

A high level of safety driving aids

A co-pilot assist highway driving system

Heated and ventilated front seats

A brake hold feature

20-inch wheels

Power front seats

A power panoramic roof with sunshade

A heated steering wheel

A 360-degree camera

A parallel and perpendicular assist parking system

A power rear liftgate

Wireless smartphone charging

A new 14-inch infotainment screen

But:

Uses the same quirky infotainment system and controls as its siblings from Toyota and Lexus

Because it’s a Subaru, there’s a non-AWD model, helping to lower the price

Verdict: After being disappointed with Subaru’s Toyota-based electric vehicle, the Solterra, since its 2023 model year debut, it's finally on par with other electric vehicles.

Subaru has given the Solterra a much-needed boost, adding a 338-horsepower drivetrain and a 288-mile driving range. Consumers shopping for a Subaru electric vehicle now have the option of selecting from the new XT trim to take advantage of the power and range. The XT trims are now available in both a Limited and Touring.

Overall, the new enhancements now make the Solterra more competitive with the offerings from Ford, Hyundai and Kia.

Competition: Toyota bZ and Lexus RZ
