Not as agile as car-like crossover competitors from BMW and Mercedes-Benz
Verdict: The sleek looking Range Rover Sport, with its body-on-frame design, is available as a plug-in model for the 2025 model year.
The midsize Range Rover Sport is a modern take on the larger and more expensive flagship Range Rover and Range Rover SV.
With its optional 23-inch wheels and contrasting roof color, the Range Rover Sport with its more youthful appeal was designed for those seeking style, luxury and electrification.
Out the gate, our test vehicle had a starting price of $85,325 before adding on accessories. While we weren’t able to use of the plug-in as of result of technical malfunction with our Range Rover's charging system, when working appropriately, the vehicle is capable of garnering up to 56 miles of electric only driving range, according to fueleconomy.gov, before the gasoline engine kicks in.
And, while the SUV oozes luxury and surpasses the competition in terms off-roading and wading through water in style, if necessary, Land Rover's engineering team has yet to add a digital key, where one's smartphone can activate many of the vehicles features, and we found the co-pilot radar-controlled highway steering system needing to be tweaked - keeping the vehicle centered on the highway.
Overall, the ride, handling, power and luxury accoutrements means this vehicle is capable of short drives in the city, long distance road trips and/or expeditions to vacation cabins located on roads with a variety of terrains.
Competition: Jeep Grand Cherokee PlugIn
Indirect Competition: BMW X5 xDrive; Lexus RX Plug-In; and Mercedes-Benz GLE Plug-In
