BMW Replacing Engine Bolts For 156,000, While Offering Extended Warranty To 170,000

Number of Vehicles Affected: 156,137


Problem: The bolts that secure the housing for the variable camfshaft timing adjustment unit can loosen over time and may possibly break. If this happens, this could cause the engine to stall, which increases the risk of an accident.

Resolution: The recall is expected to begin in May. In addition, owners of approximately 170,172 model year 2010-2012 BMW vehicles equipped with the inline 6-cylinder engine not covered by this recall will receive an extended warranty to address this condition.
