Auto Show Update: The Auto Industry First Female CEO Introduces GMC Return To The Midsize Truck Market

The Auto Industry First Female CEO, Mary Barra, makes debut introducing GMC's return to the midsized truck segment with the Canyon.





General Motors kicked-off North America's International Auto Show with the auto industry first female CEO, who oversees a major manufacturer, introducing the GMC Canyon. The Canyon makes its return to the midsize truck market later this year. Currently, Toyota and Nissan are the only two players in the segment. Dodge and Ford have walked away from the segment. Besides a similar interior to the Chevy Colorado, the vehicle's exterior is totally different.The Canyon is expected to offer many firsts. Here's a list we compiled..

  • The segment's best horsepower, 193-horsepower with the standard 4-cylinder and 302 -horsepower with the 6-cylinder engine. Both horsepower as of now.
  • The segment's best payload, 1,450 pounds
  • The segment's best maximum trailer rating, 6,700 pounds
  • A new turbo diesel coming in the 2016 model year.
