Another First At GM: Gerald Johnson, The First African American V. P. Of Manufacturing


On July 1, Gerald Johnson become the first African American to assume the role as vice president of North America manufacturing for GM. In this position, he will manage a team of over 74,000 employees, while overseeing 56 facilities in North America. Johnson plays a pivotal role in making sure that GM uses the most cost-effective measures to make sure GM builds high-quality vehicles.

Prior to this assignment, Johnson served as executive Global Program Quality and Launch, a position he held for approximately three months. Johnson has held several manufacturing related positions outside of the U. S. too. Johnson has had a prosperous 30 year plus career with the global auto giant.
