2011 CTS Coupe: A Caddy with Swagger

If you were once a fan of Caddy's stylish two-door Eldorado, you'll be glad to know its returning next year with a sleeker trim down body and a new name, too. It is now apart of the popular CTS brand, which is now available as a four-door sedan and a wagon. With the addition of the coupe, the CTS is officially able to go head-to-head with BMW's 3-series, which is available in a variety of models.

According to Caddy's officials, the CTS Coupe will have the same wheelbase as the CTS, sedan but an overall height that is approximately two inches (51 mm) lower and an overall length that is two inches (51 mm) shorter.

Although it draws from its sport sedan sister, the CTS Coupe shares only the instrument panel, console, headlamps, front fenders and grille. Key design features of the new coupe include:

  • Classic hardtop styling, with no conventional B-pillar
  • Touch-pad operation for the doors removes the need for conventional door handles, creating a technical, clean profile
  • A windshield laid at a faster angle (62.3 degrees) and a long, nearly horizontal backglass area combine to create a dramatic profile
  • Sculpted lower front fascia with unique brake-cooling vents
  • Rear fascia with mesh lower grilles
  • Center-outlet exhaust with twin dihedral-shaped tips that pass through the rear fascia
  • Signature vertical lighting, highlighted with LED light pipes
  • Rear spoiler integrated into the signature center high-mounted stop lamp
  • Sculpted roof-mounted antenna for OnStar and XM Satellite Radio.
The 304-horsepower 3.6L V-6 Direct Injection engine will be standard, equipped with a six-speed manual, featuring a revised clutch and dual-mass flywheel that offers better clutch pedal feel and improved engine isolation. And for those yearning for an automatic, a 6-speed tic transmission, with Driver Shift Controls (and available steering wheel mounted shift buttons), will be an available option. Yes, this will be the only Caddy in the line up to offer to offer a manual transmission.

The CTS Coupe interior includes hand-sewn accents covering the door, center storage console and instrument panel trim and 14-way power adjustable Recaro sport seats, which were previously exclusively offered on Cadillac’s V-Series model, will be offered on all CTS Coupe models as an option.

Look for this redone Eldorado to hit showrooms next year. Is a convertible next on the list for the CTS brand?
