Just as Toyota and a number of major automakers have posted increased sales for the month of October, the Asian automaker continues to be sidelined by its largest safety recall ever. Several weeks ago Toyota claimed that defective floor mats could be the root cause of consumers inadvertently stepping on the gas pedal, as opposed to the brakes.

However, an in-depth investigation by ABC News says that may not be the problem. Could Toyota be experiencing the same problem that Audi went through in the eighties, as it relates to sudden acceleration? Although only a small population of consumers have experienced this issue so far, we thought this safety story was to important to ignore, since countless Toyotas are on the road.
