Lexus Adds Juice to Flagship Vehicle

This is a 2010 production model LS with a Sports Package.

Lexus LS 460, the flagship vehicle for the brand, has been known for being a luxurious reliable vehicle. However, when it comes to offering sportiness, this term hasn't been associated with LS up until now. New for 2010 the LS will offer a Sports Package to go head-to-head with many of its competitors. The Sport Package, which is available only on the base rear- wheel drive, will cost $71,755. This is about a $6,200 premium over the $65,555 base price.

The Sports Package will include 19-inch split 10-spoke forged alloy wheels, Brembo brakes and an exclusive sport-tuned air suspension with specific stabilizer bars and shock absorbers to improve the handling. Inside the LS 460, the package adds perforated Black and Saddle leather interior, with sport front seats, a unique leather-trimmed steering wheel and paddle shifters for the eight-speed automatic transmission. Yes, paddle shifters in the LS to make you feel like you're driving a manual transmission.

Lexus hopes to capture buyers in the 40 to 50 age range, with the spunkier looking LS, according to Lexus officials. The current buyer for the flagship vehicle is over 60 years old. Will these changes encourage you to switch from a Bimmer or Mercedes? Too bad they didn't add some extra horses underneath the hood of the rear-wheel drive eight-cylinder. While the LS is only putting out 380 horses, both the Bimmer and the Mercedes are putting out over 400 horses.
