What’s New:  The Outlander receives a mid-cycle styling update. Some of the new features include a 12-inch infotainment screen, ventilated front seats, two additional base speakers and a new center console.

Why:

The fascia embodies an in-your-face styling theme

A new 12-inch infotainment system

A compact crossover that attempts to straddle the fence of being a midsize vehicle because of the squeezed-in third row seats

All-wheel drive or front wheel drive

A variety of trims

A high-level of safety driving aids including a co-pilot assist feature on the SEL trim

Mitsubishi ground lighting logo on select trims

A variety of driving modes

20-inch wheels available on select trims

One of the best new-vehicle warranties in the industry

A brake hold feature

A plug-in is available

Ventilated seats are now available

An available panoramic power sunroof

Wireless charging

Power folding side mirrors available

Power liftgate available on select trims

Power front seats on select trims

Heated steering wheel available

Leather seats available

But:

Third row is literally not useful for adults or kids due to limited legroom despite sliding second-row seats

It's really a 5-passenger vehicle, as opposed to a seven

When the third row is in use, headrests obstruct rear vision

The powertrain team needs to offer a gasoline or hybrid powertrain with more horsepower

The SE base pricing trim has risen by $4,100, since being redesigned three years ago

For those needs a fully function third row, it makes sense to step in to a larger three-row crossover from Hyundai, Kia, Toyota or other competitors

Verdict: After being fully redesigned three years ago, the compact Outlander receives a mid-cycle update for the 2025 model year. The roomy three-row compact crossover, which shares components with the Nissan Rogue, is in a class by itself. There isn't another mass-produced compact utility vehicle available for purchase in the U.S., offering three rows of seating.

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander receives a host of interior updates. From the 12-inch infotainment system to a new front center console and the availability of ventilated front seats, Mitsubishi continues to make the Outlander a viable option in a hyper competitive segment.

At a starting price in the low $30k range, the Outlander, which has risen by $4,100 since that time, serves as the brand's flagship vehicle. Depending on the trim, buyers can opt for a front wheel drive or an AWD configuration.

Outside of the updates noted, the Outlander can be outfitted with such features a radar activated co-pilot highway driving assistant, a panoramic power sunroof, wireless charging and leather seats.

And although a third-row is standard on all trims, the last row should be reserved for small kids due to the limited legroom. While Mitsubishi touts the vehicles third-row, this utility vehicle is still more suitable for five like most compact crossovers.

Furthermore, while the vehicle is available with three-rows, buyers really in need of such should step up to vehicles such as the Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride or Toyota Highlander. Doing such means one will have to sacrifice for a base trim in one fo the vehicles noted, as opposed to feature rich content on our test model.

Competition: Chevy Equinox; GMC Terrain; Honda CR-V; Kia Sportage; Mazda Cx-5;Nissan Rogue; and Toyota RA
