2017 Genesis G80 Pricing Undercuts Competition Despite Price Bump Over Outgoing 2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan

The all-new 2017 Genesis G80, formerly known as the Hyundai Genesis sedan, will make its U. S. debut at dealerships later this month. Genesis is first new luxury brand to land stateside since the arrival of Acura, Infiniti and Lexus in the late eighties. Genesis has announced pricing on its midsize vehicle, which go head-to-head with the BMW 5-series, Lexus GS and Cadillac CTS.

Pricing for the midsize luxury vehicle, outfitted with a 6-cylinder engine, starts at $42,350, which also includes destination charges. To put things in perspective, pricing for the outgoing Hyundai Genesis sedan starts out the gate at $39,700, $2,650 less than the G80. And pricing for the 2016 base BMW 5-Series with a 4-cylinder, 2016 Lexus GS with a 6-cylinder and 2016 Cadillac CTS with a 4-cylinder starts at $51,195, $50,950 and $46,555, respectively.

To justify the price increase of the G80, Genesis has a host of standard features on the base model. Those features include an automatic braking system, an electronic blind spot detection system, a lane keep assist system, automatic high beams, a pre-safety seat belt system, a radar-activated cruise control system with a start-stop system, an electronic parking brake system, an automatic vehicle hold system, an 8-inch touch screen, a navigation system and a rearview camera. The only major feature missing from the standard features, but is available on the option list is a power panoramic roof. Like with the current Genesis sedan, the G80 will be available with a choice of two 6 -cylinder or one eight cylinder engine in a rear-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive configuration. Pricing for the 8-cylinder starts out the gate at $54,950.

Pricing for the brand's flagship, the G90, formerly known as the Hyundai Equus, is slated to be announced in the next few weeks. To stay in line with the Korean's pricing policy, we can only assume pricing for the flagship will also undercut the competition.

Every Genesis will also include the following complimentary services for 3 years or 36,000 miles:

  • Scheduled Maintenance
  • Valet Services*
  • Sirius Travel Link
  • Map Care - navigation map updates
  • Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Concierge Services
*And rather than driving to a dealership for the service appointment, Genesis owners can choose to have their vehicle picked up at an agreed upon location of their choice. A complimentary Genesis loaner car will be dropped off, allowing owners to go about their day without interruption. When the service is completed, the customer again chooses the time and location for the vehicle to be delivered.

The current Genesis sedan recently rated in the top tier in terms of quality in the latest J. D. Power 90-day quality study.
