Recall Mondays: Ford And Nissan Are In The Hot Seat

1. AUTOMAKER: Nissan

AFFECTED CUSTOMERS: 45,000
SUMMARY:
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2006 Sentra vehicles manufactured January 2, 2006, to August 26, 2006, originally sold, or currently registered, in geographic locations associated with high absolute humidity. Specifically, vehicles sold, or currently registered, in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Florida and adjacent counties in southern Georgia, as well as the coastal areas of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
CONSEQUENCE:
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring the vehicle occupants.


REMEDY:
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 14V-701.


2. AUTOMAKER: Ford Motor Company

NO. OF AFFECTED CUSTOMERS: 336,873
SUMMARY:
Ford Motor Company is issusing a safety recall on 2012-14 Ford Fiesta and 2013-14 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles for a latch issue. 

CONSEQUENCE:
The door latch in these vehicle may experience a broken pawl spring tab, which typically results in a condition where the door will not latch. If a customer is then able to latch the door, there is potential the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury.


REMEDY:
Dealers will replace all four door latches no cost to the customer.
