Honda Battle of the Band: Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Black Colleges

Did you notice the Honda logo?

Down to the finals.... Who will win the 2012 Honda CR-V?
Here's a snap shot of the Honda CR-V.

Elijah Hayes, a student at Fort Valley State was the winner of Honda's  CR-V.  We know he'll be the 'Big  Man' on campus.

The winner with Mike Accavitti, Honda's marketing executive , and Ryan Cameron,  MC and  a local radio personality.

Another HBCU celebrates 100 years!

Here's the way to showcase the name of your school.

BCU spells out its school name, too.

This HBCU band formed a smile, while playing gospel singer Kirk Franklin latest hit.
Singer Monica performed for the crowd at this year's event, which was held at the Georgia Dome.

For the tenth year, Honda stepped-up to the plate, sponsoring ten bands from the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) community, showcasing their pageantry, showmanship and musicianship at the Georgia Dome.

Since 1989, Honda has played an integral role in supporting HBCUs whether in the classroom, providing over $6 million in educational grants toward Honda Campus All-Star Challenge, or outside of the classroom, funneling over $2 million toward the music department.

For the second year in a row, we had an opportunity to experience Honda Battle of the Bands. Over 40,000 anxious folks filled the stadium to witness the vivacious energy pumping from the hundreds of synchronized musicians as they draped the Atlanta Falcons field.

Besides the ten schools that were invited to showcase their bands, R&B singers Monica and Lenny Williams graced the field, performing some of their hits.

And for the first time, Honda infused both Facebook and Twitter into the competition, allowing participating HBCU bands the chance to navigate their way into winning one redesigned 2012 Honda CR-V.

Elijah Hayes of Fort Valley State University was the winner of the 2012 Honda CR-V.  Mike Accavitti, Vice President of National Marketing Operations for American Honda, is featured in one of the photos giving Hayes the winning key to start-up his brand-new crossover.

If you've never witnessed a HBCU band competition before, you should place this on your list next year. You won't be disappointed!
